June 2017

State, June 3rd, CHAMPIONS!!!

3-2-1, IT'S DONE.  Congratulations to the girls, parents, coaching staff and the school administration.  This was a total team effort from everyone.  Winning a state title is very difficult but we proved it can be done.  With 10 girls spiking up and laying it all on the line they out scored the seeds and didn't leave it to the 4x4 to decide the champion.  So many highlights: Kayland Jackson winning the 100mH.  Prommyse Hoosier in 5th place in the Long Jump.  Prommyse, Ashley, Mikeisha and Byrd winning the 4x1 and Ashley, Mikeisha, Byrd and Dejah winning the 4x4.  We set 4 school records this night, 100mH, 4x1, 1600m and 4x4.  Byrd and Mikeisha placing 2nd in the 100m and 200m respectively.  Dejah J, Kennedy and Deysha A both placing in the 400m, 100mH and Shot respectively.

May 2017

Regionals, May 24th, CHAMPIONS
What a difference a week makes.  Warmer weather and faster times, repeating champions and new champions.  This was a great night for our Lady Warriors, as we move 13 athletes to the State meet.

Sectionals, May 17th, CHAMPIONS
This was a chilly wet evening but we moved through, like champions, still producing some of the fastest times in the state.
Marion County, May 10th, CHAMPIONS
With the threat of bad weather looming we wanted to get the meet underway as quickly as possible.  The 4x8 team did an awesome of scoring from the slow heat putting us on the board first.  Then a 1-2 punch from our hurdlers, Kayland and Kennedy.  Byrd and Baker were 1 - 3 in the 100m.  Our big winners of the evening, Kennedy, Ashley, Tiler and Dejah in the 4x400m relay running a time of 3:55.96.

Freshman County, May 7th, CHAMPIONS
Our group of Freshman girls did an awesome job.  Our big 4-time Freshman County Champion, Mikeisha Covington was the MVP of the day winning the 100m, 200m and running on the 4x1 and 4x4 winning teams.  Prommyse Hoosier was runner-up in the 100m and 200m, Long Jump Champion and ran on the 4x1 team.  Mya Hammons was runner-up in the Long Jump, 400m Champion and anchored or 4x4 team.  The afternoon concluded with the girls needing a win in the 4x4, being told this news, they stepped up and got the job done.  Great job girls.

Warren Relays, May 5th, CHAMPIONS
Senior night for our Seniors, Byrd, Grace, Brinna, Precyous, Daisa and Victoria began with a rain delay but that didn't stop the girls for running fast.  4x100m hurdles, SMR, 4x1 and 4x4 Champions.  Hope vaulted a PR of 9-0 and Deysha threw a PR of 40-7.  Thanks to all who supported our television raffle.

April 2016

MIC Championship, April 29th, CHAMPIONS
WOW, the night was spectacular.  WCHS knows how to host a championship meet.  Though the evening was not particularly warm, the track was smoking.  Byrd ran 24.30 in the 200m finals which moved her to #2 in the state and 2nd fastest time in school history.  She also finished 2nd in the 100m (12.02).  Mikeisha Covington and Dejah Johnson went 1-2 in the 400m dash.  Kayland and Kennedy were 1-2 in the 100mH.  Deysha Anderson was meet champion in the shot (40-6).   Kennedy moved to #4 in the state with a time of 45.70 in the 300mH. Our all-star 4x1 came home as meet champions as well running a state leading time of 46.84.
Southport Relays, April 23rd, CHAMPIONS
SMR and 4x4 teams both set meet records today.  The 4x1 team ran 47 seconds today and our team of sophomores in the 4x1600m all ran great with PR's coming from Mekayla and Daniela.  Individually Bryd (11.87) and Baker (12.16) both ran PR's in the 100m dash.  KJ (14.59) ran a season PR in the hurdles and Kennedy (15.48) ran a PR as well.
Royal Relays, April 16th, CHAMPIONS
Beautiful day producing great times, PR's and records. 4x2 broke the meet record ran the fastest time in Indiana History, 4x4 broke the meet record and ran a school record that has stood since 2006.  Jamie ran a 10 second PR in the 1600m.  KJ and Kennedy ran PR's in the 300mH both running 46 seconds.  Prommyse Hoosier jumped a PR going 17-6.  All was dedicated to Mya Hammons who had to leave early with mom to get 12 stitches in her knee when she ran into the HJ standard.
Jeffersonville Inferno April 8 -9th, Champions
